Impetus

The impetus for putting together the 9 Ball Technique came in a sales meeting for a former client of mine.

After a pretty lengthy session of “role play”, we got to the end of the session. The director of sales asked the team to assess where we where on the matter.

I was struck by the fact that no one on the team (including myself or the DOS) could come up with a conclusive assessment of how well we did and what needed to happen next.

This caused me to undertake to create the 9 Ball Technique, a system that would allow groups and individuals to, in a short period of minutes, analyze any problem, come up with a pointed assessment and plan next steps in an with efficiency and excellence.

The System

The concept of how the 9 Ball Technique is to work is really quite simple. We ask a series of logical questions. Quite simply, the answer to those questions represent the framework of a plan forward with the strength of a strong analytical/assessment tool.

In short the 9 Ball Technique poses the following questions:

  • What problem are we attempting to solve?
  • What is the endeavor/assignment?
  • What is the purpose of undertaking this endeavor/assignment?
  • Who are the key people to be involved in the endeavor?
  • What is the benefit for each person?
  • What actions do the key people need to take?
  • When do the actions need to be completed?
  • What are the locations for all activities?
  • What are the specific methods by which actions are to be accomplished?
  • How much do we need to do each of the preceding?
  • What did we miss?
  • What do we do next?
